“Working from home” is no longer a trend, it has become a necessity and this necessity does not come with a bed of roses. Long extended hours of working at a house desk are taking a toll on our backs and necks and as important as getting our work done, our spines are in need of extra comfort. Thus, most of us are looking for that perfect office chair that suits our needs. This is clearly seen by a whopping 140% increase in sales for April 2020 as compared to the same period last year, when the overall category growth has been between 50%-60% YoY growth. Consumers are clearly ready to shell out the big bucks when it comes to the perfect work chair.

However, customers have many questions regarding the products. If these questions are not addressed upfront, the customers may either delay the purchase or worse may purchase from a competitor who has provided more detailed information.

Using the Bewgle Analytics Software, we have analysed six thousand ratings and reviews to create the Frequently Asked Questions customers have when buying ergonomic office chairs

Q) Assembly: How hard is it to assemble?

A)  Assembling a chair can be a daunting task, especially for those, who are not dexterous at furniture-assembling. Unlike in the office, at home, the chair assembly has to be done all by yourself. Therefore, people look for easier designs that can be assembled.

Not everyone is an assembly-genius, hence step by step instructions and the manual book is a must. Including general tips in FAQs such as needing an extra pair of hands during installation and ensuring the right tools required would avoid consumers feeling agitated.

Q) Lumbar/Back Support: Do we have the support system we need?

A) Long hours of sitting at a desk can give rise to several back-related issues, this is why many have opted to purchase ergonomic chairs. Ergonomic chairs as the name indicates would mean comfort-chairs. However, seldom is that comfort level achieved.

Certain chairs have limited capabilities depending on the height of the person. While some find the lumbar support adequate for their heights, others might have mixed opinions on it. In case of adjustable gears for lumbar support, some of these issues are rectified, but if the adjustable mode is not found, it is important to factor which body dimensions have adequate lumber support.

Including specifications in FAQs, around comfort level, for the height of users, and recommendations for bundling would help in customer satisfaction right off the bat. For certain chairs, an extra cushion for support had to be purchased to eliminate such constraints. A splendid idea would be maybe adding an accessory cushion for the chair to relieve another purchase burden that customers would have to do.

Q) Material and Padding: Why do they matter?

A) The material can be Oh-so important for consumers, mostly in how comfortable the chair would feel for longer stretches of time. Some adjectives used to describe materials as “rough”, “itchy”, and “sticky” are seen by displeased customers. Breathable materials are asked for as the longer the chair is being used, the more absorbent the material should be to absorb sweat and prevent skin irritation. A word of caution-There has been instances where people were allergic to some materials.

FAQs could mention the materials and allergy concerns so that consumers are not surprised. Recommendations for covers or extra padding for those with sensitive posteriors would lead to more comfortable seating.

Q)Armrest- How is the resting potential?

A) Chair-arm mechanisms come in many forms. For the most part, the audience loves a folded arm mechanism, this way when needed the arm folds back along with the chair, giving more flexibility. FAQs clearly stating the type of arm mechanism with material information would help attract customers who are looking for the soft pillowy effect for resting arms. As more people tend to rest their arms on the arm-rest, it is necessary that built quality supports the pressure of the arms

Q) Wheels: How does it roll?

A) Most office chairs come with a set of wheels that help to move the chair around. Although these wheels are an object of desire, on some floors, they cause some damage. Wheels on a surface are supposed to roll in motion, but some wheels do not roll but scrape about when moved and this causes floor-damage. Smoother rolling wheels is the gateway to less scratched-up floors.

As the entire chair structure is levied on the wheels, it is important that the wheel is strong enough to handle the load of the chair and the person sitting on it. This is why the wheel needs to have good strength-quality. Many consumers have requested for extra wheels during their first-purchase so that they can easily replace the wheels because getting the right set of wheels for the chair is a tedious undertaking. The FAQs should clearly state the best surfaces for usage and best practices for wheels/ chair maintenance. In addition, recommending where replacement parts such as wheels can be purchased is also very important.

Q) Who is the real user?

A) The prevalence of office chairs was mainly for office use, but since more people have started work from home, more and more of these office chairs are delivered to homes. Presently the usage of office chairs is extending even to young children as restrictions have placed schools in an online structure for the coming months. As more children are spending most of their hours sitting at a desk, ergonomic office chairs are the most convenient devices for comfortable seating.
Who the chair is good for is also a good point to be mentioned in the FAQs. This will extend the consumer base and attract new customers.

In conclusion, a good office chair can work miracles for comfortable seating. In the process of redefining the perfect office chair, it is imminent to look at user personas and evolving consumer behaviours and providing them information upfront to ensure a smooth experience and higher satisfaction.
